Monday, April 26, 2010 - Today, public safety members from across Prince Georges County gathered to pay tribute to the brave men and women that serve the citizens everyday, and to make special recognition to members who have preformed above and beyond the call of duty. The luncheon was hosted by County Executive Jack Johnson and M.C.’d by Doreen Gentzler and Jim Vance of NBC 4. The ceremony recognized members of the Police, Sheriff, Fire/EMS, Corrections and Homeland Security Departments for a multitude of heroic deeds preformed during the past year. Two DC Generals Football players were among this years award winners. #85 Derian C. Whitted of the Prince Georges County Fire and EMS Department was awarded the Silver Medal of Valor for his role in the rescue and success resuscitation of a pregnant mother trapped and submerged under water in her vehicle. Also, #32 Joe Brown of the DCFD and the Kentland VFD was awarded the Gold Medal of Valor for his role in the rescue of a downed firefighter during a house fire in 2009. Congratulations to both members and thank you to all the members of the Generals who put their lives on the line every day for the fine citizens of the Washington Metro area.
