WASHINGTON REDSKINS SHOW SUPPORT FOR DC GENERALS AND C.O.P.S.: SON OF FALLEN OFFICER HELPS WITH THE OPENING SCRIMMAGE COIN TOSS
Friday, August 13, 2010
-
Several weeks before the opening scrimmage for the Washington Redskins, through a continued working relationship with the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, the DC Generals Police and Fire Football Team were contacted to see if either of their charities (DC FF Burn Foundation and DC Concerns of Police Survivors) knew of a deserving young man or woman who would like to help with the coin toss. It didn’t take long for that void to be filled by a young man named Blake Brooks, age 7. Blake’s father, Corporal Courtney G. Brooks, an officer with the Maryland Transportation Authority, was killed in the line of duty on New Years Eve of 2008 while working a traffic detail outside of Baltimore City. Despite their tremendous loss, Blake and his mother Susan have had to carry on with the support of friends, family and the Concerns of Police Survivors Charity organization which the DC Generals donate to. On August 13th the family was all smiles though as Blake made his way to the 50 yard line, sporting his father memorial t-shirt, to help with the coin toss ceremony as the Washington Redskins open their preseason against the Buffalo Bills. Blake had practiced all week at home for the big moment and when his time finally came he preformed flawlessly. All the fans sitting around the family told Blake he would have to come back as he was the Skins good luck charm, racking up 42 points on the Bills. The DC Generals and the Concerns of Police Survivors would like to thank the Washington Redskins for Blake’s once in a lifetime opportunity and also thank them for recognizing the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform. Although they are gone, they will never be forgotten.

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS FOR THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF TROOPER WESLEY BROWN
Friday, June 11, 2010
-
The DC Generals Police and Fire Football Team would like to offer its thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Trooper Wesley Brown, killed in the line of duty during the early morning hours of June 11th, 2010. The following is an excerpt from the Associated Press.

Police were searching for a man who shot and killed an off-duty Maryland state trooper working security at a Prince George's County restaurant early Friday. Trooper Wesley Brown, 24, escorted a disorderly customer from an Applebee's on Thursday evening and when he left the restaurant around 12:40 a.m. Friday, State Police Superintendent Col. Terrence Sheridan said that customer shot him.

Brown, who was wearing a jacket that clearly identified him as a police officer on the back, was talking on the phone in the parking lot of the restaurant and was shot without warning, Sheridan said. Brown was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. Brown's death has devastated the trooper's law enforcement and personal family and the community he protected, Sheridan said.

Brown was assigned to the Forestville barracks and was recently engaged to be married, Sheridan said. State Police spokesman Greg Shipley said Brown was working off-duty. Many troopers do security work as part-time jobs, but it must be approved by the state police command, he said.
