Saturday, February 6, 2010 - A huge thanks to Mr. Charles Perkins for donating $5000.00 to the DC Generals for there 2010 football season.
Charles Lindsey Perkins - Charlie as he likes to be called - became interested in the charities after being introduced to them through his daughter. "There are plenty of people in need out there. Our trust reviews many applications for help. The DC Generals have a two fold purpose, helping those burned and there families and helping family victims of a fallen cop - I can't think of a better place our funds could help."
Charlie is a North Carolina native, being raised in Reidsville, NC. He came from NC to VA in his teens to join the Navy after working at a box factory having gone no farther than 9th grade. After 2 years in the Navy, an honorable discharge, and a new wife he settled in Arlington, Va and began working for his father learning the trade of sheet metal and roofing. Several years later he started his own company know as Arlington Roofing and Sheet Metal Co.
Taking the trade his father had taught him he built the business up from one truck to 25 with approximately 50 employees at one point. In 1967 he mortgaged everything to obtain property in Merrifield, VA where he developed warehouse space, known as Lee Properties, all the time maintaining Arlington Roofing. "God blessed me every step of the way. I worked long days and nights, but it was just what you did. You took care of your family, you went to church, and you helped those in need. I grew up poor so I knew what it was like not to have anything. When I made the money I promised God I would give back and that is what I have always done.
Sharing his blessings with less fortunate and needy individuals is of vital importance to Charlie, along with supporting established charitable organizations such as the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the National Kidney Foundation and many others.
Additionally, he provides financial assistance to many individuals who are undergoing hardships due to illness, unemployment, or monetary shortages related to extenuating circumstances – helping approximately 30 to 40 different people each year.
